Top Five Caribbean Destinations

The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea are notorious for having amazing vacation destinations. We have organized some information on the top 5 destinations including Mexico, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, and the Virgin Islands. These destinations offer travelers the best all inclusive Caribbean packages for many reasons, each with its own unique attractions. The following brief profiles provide the highlights for each country.

Mexico

Mexico provides a vast array of vacation opportunities that include mainland cultural destinations as well as coastal resorts. On the mainland, Mexico City is the heart and soul of Mexico and is the largest city in the country. Resting at a minimum of seven thousand feet above sea level in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt and surrounded by mountain peaks, beautiful scenery can be viewed in every direction. This area is also home to the ancient Aztecs of the 14th century, so there are many relics and artifacts of the famous lost civilization to be admired. Traveling east or west from Mexico City, the coastlines are dotted with beach communities filled with the character of the locals of each city. A traveler to the Mexican coast can choose from a traditional Mexican experience or a modern tourist paradise.

Jamaica

Music may have made Jamaica famous, but this Caribbean island offers so much more. The tropical climate and isolation has created a unique diversity of ecosystems with an interesting variety of plants and animals. The food offerings and local culture are sure to delight travelers as will the duty free shopping and pristine beaches in the area. Of particular interest, Montego Bay has invested in a dramatic modernization process intended to raise this famous city to a new level of quality and service for tourist in Jamaica.

Dominican Republic

Traveling east from Jamaica, one can pass the nation of Haiti for a visit to the Dominican Republic and visit the location where Christopher Columbus first landed in the Americas in 1492. Santo Domingo offers a wealth of European history as being the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Caribbean. Historic castles such as the Fortaleza Ozama combined with a modern infrastructure offer a unique look at the past and present of this famous location. This nation displays its vast historical record in the many museums scattered throughout the country.

Bahamas

The next destination can be traveled by visiting one of the 700 islands that make up the islands of the Bahamas. Beaches, resorts, and casinos dominate these islands because there is less land surface to work with. A traveler could expect to spend afternoons basking in the tropical sunshine, evenings dinning on local cuisine, and nights testing their luck in a casino.

Virgin Islands

A similar experience can be had in the Virgin Islands. The eastern section is governed by the British, while the western islands are a part of the United States. This offers travels a microcosm of the similarities and differences between two larger national systems of government while still providing the tropical island experience that can be expected throughout the Caribbean region.
